I know for a fact that whenever somebody makes up his mind to write an essay, it is always his desire to do a good job of the same. A person may appear careless and clueless in life, but when such an important thing as an essay comes up - be it for personal use like in a class setting or for purposes of a writing company of sorts-every one of the essayists always wants to give it his all. Unfortunately the desire to write well does not always translate in good essays being written; the chief reason why is it so are common mistakes that can and should be avoided during essay writing.
One of the commonest mistakes that could hinder the quality of ones essay is the use of apostrophes in words. Many people make basic errors when it comes to applying apostrophes in a word in the sense that there is always a confusion as regards to the application of an apostrophe in a singular word, plural word, word ending with the letter 's' and in the possessive nouns and pronouns. Another basic mistake always comes in the use of the expressions 'it's' and 'its'. The two expressions are very different - the former meaning 'it is' and the latter showing an element of possession.
Another mistake comes in the shape of spelling and semantic confusions of words and expressions that can easily be jumbled like 'there' and 'their', 'effect' and 'affect', 'who' and 'whom', 'travelled in' and 'travelled by' and so on and so forth. Such words need to be considered carefully before one can use them in an essay. The use of capitalization when not needed or forgetting to use it when needed is also a common error that needs to be avoided at all costs, just as the use quotes as sentences on their own. Quotes need to be used as part of a sentence at all times. There are so many things that can be spoken about as those to be avoided in a sentence, but I feel these are the most fundamental ones.
A good essay is made of many components. If by any chance one of these components is missing or placed at the wrong place, then the essay can be in a different category. This means it automatically ceases to be a good essay. A small mistake can really cost too much. A beautiful lady would automatically be transferred from that glory if her teeth were not even. What if her teeth were just fine and her eyebrows were on the lower side?
That is exactly what this means. A good essay needs to have a title in the right place, introduction, main body and conclusion in that order. Having said that, how than does one come up with an essay title? Well this may sound or appear so simple but we all know appearances can be deceiving. Proper steps need to be followed and only then can one come up with a title for an essay. This is worth noting that it is not just a title but a good title.
First, the title needs to be comprehensive. It should carry all that is within the essay in an extremely summarised sentence. After writing it down, one needs to be able to connect each corner of the essay to it. Secondly, the title needs to have simple but clear English. Use of complex words is highly discouraged at all times. Thirdly, the title should be based on the audience the essay is to be presented. Fourthly, the title should be eye-catching. This makes whoever reads it or hears it want more and more. All those should always be considered before choosing a title.
There are different types of essays, and each one has to be learned during the school life. It is very easy to get lost in the multitudes of essay types, therefore one needs to be careful while choosing an essay. To start, there is an expository essay which has the main function of explaining the reader something. It explains some information and for it to be written, preparation and background information is needed. Persuasive essay persuades the reader that your point of view is right, logical and well founded. It is not only showing that you know something but it is also convincing the reader that you know it well. Informal essay is written only for enjoyment. It has the elements of informative and persuasive but it's more relaxed and has an element of humor. It is more personal and maintains a sense of one's own personality. The review is another type of essay; it can be both formal and informal. Its overall goal is to evaluate a certain piece; it can be a novel or even a movie. Its formality is determined by the level of analyzing, summary and the reaction towards the work. The research essay lets you know the work of other people and compare one's thoughts with the writer's work. Plagiarism is the greatest danger in the research essay. There should be some personal input rather than just copying which will eventually lead to a lower grade. Literary essay explores the meaning, and the way a piece of literature is constructed. This essay focuses on such elements as character, theme, style and other skills. It can be one's interpretation based on the observed elements in a certain piece of information. Argumentative essay concentrates on winning the reader to their side of the story. It lets a person write about something. Compare and contrast essay is the last type, its main function is to find similarities and dissimilarities between two things.
